Crochet Dyeing Fiber Stash |
Thursday August 19th, 2010 Ok, I haven't done much but here is a new batt I made:
I also renamed all of my dyed roving in the "Dyeing" section on the left. That is what they will be called in my shop. That's all the fiber stuff I have for now. We did paint our living room and bathroom so I got pictures of that: Here's the before. I know this picture isn't the best but the colors on the wall are pretty acurate....yeah.
Aaaand....after!!
Here's the bathroom. I don't have before picture of it but it was yellow like the kitchen here:
After!!
This is closer to the color in real life.
Yes, much better....now we are moving :( Well, we got to enjoy it for a month, lol. We get to paint at the new place so its not a total loss. Painting is a hard job though. I have to paint because Lee hates it. I did the living room, bathroom and guest bedroom by myself. I like painting so its not so bad. I guess that's all for now. Friday August 6th, 2010 I haven't posted anything in a while but I have a lot of new stuff to post about so maybe it will be interesting. Last weekend we went to Tulsa for Lee's work. Coincidently, there was a fiber festival about 20 minutes away and I got to go! It was like a spinner's toy store. They had spinning wheels and any fiber you could ever want. I ended up getting some things that I had been wanting for a while but I could only get them online and didn't want to pay shipping so this was a perfect opportunity. I got pictures: These are hand dyed Border Leicester (pronounced lester) locks.
Angelina fibers are something I've wanted for a long time. Of course I like them because they are super sparkly. I took the pictures out of focus on purpose so the colors stand out more. Otherwise they just look like shiny strips but in real life they are actually sparkly.
This is natural color bamboo fiber. Its probably my favorite. Its so soft and shiny.
This is a roving I saw and I had to have it. The colors are so bold and pretty.
I have some batts that I finished and they will be for sale in my shop.
That's about it for the things I've been working on. I have been slowly putting things up for sale in my shop but I deactivated them until I get everything in order. I still need business cards, product labels, shipping labels, printer ink and stuff I'm probably not even thinking of. Anyway, I guess that's all for now. Sunday June 27th, 2010 I've been doing more dyeing than spinning lately. I have six rovings done and they will all probably be for sale as soon as I get my shop going. I want to have a good stash of things to sell before I open my shop...not that things will go flying off the shelf or anything. Here are the things I've been slaving over on the stove:
Lee actually made up this colorway but it didn't turn out the way it was supposed to. I most likely will retry it. Its called Beauty In Dusk.
I dyed a bunch of roving different colors and have started making batts with them. I got one done but unfortunately I can't get a good picture of it because the batteries in my camera died. I'll post it when I can. All for now. Tuesday June 1st, 2010 I have a few things to catch you up on (whoever "you" is)...first, I'm going to participate in Le Tour de Fleece (lol) this year. Basically, its a spin-along (which is where a bunch of spinners spin at the same time, whether it be spinning the same thing or spinning toward the same goal) during Le Tour de France. I don't particularly care to watch the Tour de France but the Tour de Fleece is something I can get on board with. Here is some information about it (taken from the Tour de Fleece Ravelry Group). Here are the guidelines: 1. Spin every day the Tour rides, if possible. Saturday July 3rd through Sunday July 25th. Days of rest: Monday July 12th, Wednesday July 21st. (Just like the actual tour) 2. Spin something challenging Thursday July 22nd. (The Tour’s toughest mountain stage from Pau up the legendary Col du Tourmalet) 3. Take a button if you want one. Then we can use the button on our blogs in show of solidarity. 4. Wear yellow on Sunday July 25th to announce victory. Why not wear yellow on any day you feel particularly successful? (Yellow is the color of the race leader in the Tour - but here we are all ‘race leaders’) 5. Other colors if desired: Green (sprinter - think FAST), Polka-dot (climber - as in uphill), and white (rookie) These are the main teams: - Rookies (first years) - Sprinters (fast and/or high mileage like lace) - Climbers (conquer mountains, big personal challenges) - Breakaway (Art yarns) - Peloton (The main group. Everyone is in the peloton at some point) - Lantern rouge (You will participate as much as possible but you may skip days here and there. Cheerleaders welcome.) - Wildcards (This is for people who want to form their own team. This includes sponsored teams, like those affiliated with a specific fiber shop or people who live in the same town, etc.) The teams are inspired by the actual Tour de France. I'm in the Rookies, Breakaway and a wildcard team called Team Babe, a team where everyone spins on a Babe spinning wheel. I've started to build my stash for the tour. I'm hoping I can keep from spinning it until then. Grr. A whole month plus some. I may have to cave on some of it. I just got this roving in the mail today from BohoKnitterChic.
She added this sample in as a freebie! How awesome!
I also updated the fiber art section on the left. Wow, this was a long post. I think I'll end it now before it gets any longer. Thursday May 27th, 2010 After being in Bartlesville, Ok for a week for Lee's job I came home to my new Babe spinning wheel! I could have had it a week earlier but I didn't get an email I should have gotten from Babe's Fiber Garden (the company I got my wheel from) so, thanks a lot, yahoo mail! The owner of Babe's said he was out of the white pvc but he had a black one ready to ship out if I wanted it. That was a really nice upgrade. I didn't want to spend the extra money on the black one, which I think doesn't look as cheap. Here's a picture: I even crocheted a little bag for it.
It came with 4 ounces of roving but I'm not sure what it is. Its soft though. I just dyed it today. Here it is drying on a hanger:
Here it is in a braid.
I do have some things spun already but I have to get pictures of them. I do have one pretty batt that I carded up then spun:
I really like it. Aubrey and I carded up one exactly like it only with blue instead of pink. I got it spun up but I have to set the twist then I'll post pictures. All for now. Wednesday May 12th, 2010 I got my drum carder today! Its awesome! I got pictures: The Carder
First Batt
Before And After
I'm going to be carding and dyeing a lot in preparation for my wheel which I should get by the end of next week. I'm on cloud 9. In fact I'm going to go start dyeing some fleece right now. I got some Rit dyes yesterday so i'm pretty excited to use real dye as opposed to Kool-Aid or food coloring. I'll post pictures of that when I can. I might get preoccupied. Friday May 7th, 2010 According to my last post I was going to get a spinning wheel "sometime this year". Well, "sometime this year" came a little sooner than I though it was going to. On Wednesday I actually ordered a spinning wheel!! I got some money I wasn't expecting and was able to get one. Also, this next week I'm going to be able to get a drum carder too!! That is an even bigger surprise! I never thought I'd get a carder. At least not for a loooong time. I'll be updating this site a lot more now that I will be able to get things done in a timely manner. It won't take me weeks to spin 2 ounces of fiber on my spindle anymore! I also found an alpaca fiber source where I was able to get a pound of chocolate and a pound of white alpaca fleece. So pretty and soft. I also still have the two pounds of romney fleece from months ago and the rest of the mulberry silk. I'm washing the fleeces and getting them ready for my carder (yay, carder!). If I can talk Lee into it I'm going to get some BFL or Merino as a base for my batts and maybe some bamboo if I can find a good price. Anywho, that is my exciting news. Keep checking back for more updates. I'll be posting pics of the fleeces I have and then my equipment when they arrive. Monday April 26th, 2010 I know I haven't posted anything for a looong time but I've been busy and I haven't really done any yarny things. I did finish spinning half of my silk fiber. I dyed it and I'm knitting it into a scarf. I have to get batteries for my camera and then I'll take pictures of it. Still don't have a spinning wheel yet but maybe I'll be able to get one sometime this year. I guess that's all for now. Friday January 29th, 2010 Its been snowing all day.
I was thinking about, if I ever do get a spinning wheel and a drum carder, that I might start a little shop on Etsy. I've been trying to think of names and as of now I'm going with Spin Fusion. As far as I can tell no one has that name on Etsy or anywhere else. I'm still trying to decide if I would even want to do that as a business. I have so many yarn and fiber batt ideas in my head I can't even see straight. Apparently fiber batts sell really well on Etsy which is why I would need a drum carder since I could never blend large amounts of fibers with my dog brushes. I cringe just thinking of it. That's all for now but I will leave you with some pictures of our new house...or should I say fun house. Living Room
Kitchen
Guest Bedroom
Master Bedroom
It could be worse though...it could be ALL WHITE! AHHHH!! Wednesday January 27th, 2010 I just added some better pictures of Funkytown and added my newest yarn, Sugar, under Handspinning. Saturday January 16th, 2010 I don't know why I thought I could have this done in two days. There are way too many pages to code. Blah! The only things that have any content are the pages under "Other Art". I'm going to be working on "Fiber Art" for a while. There is one thing in "Handspinning", though. I don't have a camera anymore so its hard to get pictures of the process and the finished product with just my phone. Hopefully I'll be done sometime soon. I feel like I've been working on this forever and haven't made a dent in it. I have a lot more pages than my last layout because I'm giving every picture a page of its own so I can write a description under it. Counting only the ones I have done right now I have 32 pages! Which I coded by myself. Ahhh! The torture! Well, I'll be done soon and I won't be changing my layout again for a while. Wednesday December 30th, 2009 - An Update! Yay, I finally got off my lazy butt and started redoing this site! It feels nice to have a different layout. I think I had the old one for like 4 years or something ridiculous like that. I haven't done all the pages yet but I am working on them. There will be some new stuff and some stuff I'm going to take down. Some of it isn't worth keeping on here (to me, anyway). The new construction seems to be going quick, though. Maybe I'll actually have this done by the new year....maybe. Sunday December 20th, 2009 I think I'm going to completely redo this whole site and make it into more of a craft art blog. I don't really draw anymore but I'm doing crafts more now than anything. I don't know how long it will take to redo all the pages on this site. Maybe I'll make it a one page site. Anyway, I need to get started soon. If anyone actually visits this sad website keep coming back because (hopefully soon) it will be a whole new site! |
